My Two yr old Still Wont Talk PLZ HELP

My two year old once spoke small words like 'fishie' 'daddy' 'tia' 'mommy' 'jen', and lots of other words, but shortly after she turned 1, which was June 13, 2008, she just hardly spoke. If she ever speaks, its'papa' or 'aqua'. Im very worried for her, we watch Sesame Street with her, buy Sesame Street learning dvds, Blue Clues dvds, and we even turn off the tv for a week at a time and go through words with her, but still nothing. What should I do, plz help us.

My son spoke a good chunk of single words...mommy, drink, hungry, etc.  By age 2ish he was still lacking far behind what my first son was at his age, and I was starting to get a little worried.  Then we took a trip to visit my mom, dad, and little brother for about a month and a half.  Suddenly he exploded!  Speaking all sorts of new words, and in whole phrases and sentences.  It was totally out of the blue.  As an after thought tho.  My first son was in daycare almost from birth until age 4.  And at that time I had many other people and friends around him a lot.  My second son tho has never been to daycare, and being in a military family we move around a lot and don't have lots of people over.  So perhaps she needs to expand her exposure to lots of socialization and conversations with other people.  That is all I can think of when comparing my 2 boys.  Hope it helps.

Have you ever taken her to your doctor and expressed your concerns to him/her? If she seems to be regressing, then this should be enough of a concern to have her checked by a pediatrician. She could just be sitting back and listening to you and absorbing everything but you can never be too concerned. If she has ever had any ear problems like infections, this could also play a role in late speech development. Don't hesitate to get her checked out by the doctor. Keep reading to her and playing those Dvd's and Cd's and allow her to watch all the educational kids programs you choose to allow her to watch and as often as you want her too, but remember that outside time in nature is a great way of learning as well. Being able to play in the flowers and at the parks and with other kids are all great ways of teaching as well. She is probably getting to a age where she can start to color and play with shapes and blocks and all sort of toys she can build her imaginary with. Playing games with her is a great way of teaching her. Everything that comes naturally from her environment. If you are really concerned, take her to her pediatrician. This will help to ease the stress of being a new parent and ease your mind. I know, I have 3 children of my own. Good luck. You're not alone. We are all here for you.
