Picking

I am a 15 year old girl. I have this obsesive picking problem. Nobody understands me when I say that I can't help it. I always tell myself not to pick but I always do, I CAN'T HELP IT! Sometimes I'll even wake up in the morning to find myself picking my scabs, I don't even know that I'm doing it sometimes. Please help me. My parents tell me that I am suicidal but I am not, I don't mean to do it. Please help me.

Listen... I have the same thing. I notice that i have different habits, if thats what you call them. I know they are distuctive, but i can't help it either. I found a shampoo / wash that helps with the scabs, even when it stings. It's called T/Sal from Neutragena. Hope it helps you to heal faster! Also, i like to use silly putty to keep my hands busy.

The picking is usually a sign of anxiety especially since you do it and aren't aware of it at times. Some people have panic attacks, difficulty breathing, or worrisome thoughts, while others develop nervous habits such as picking or hair-pulling. You need to see a counselor to help you learn not to pick. They may recommend you also see a doctor to put you on an anxiety medication. Why do your parents think you are suicidal? Picking is a type of self-mutilation, but you are not cutting correct?
