Picky eater....

I have an eleven year old daughter. She has always been a picky eater. She will only eat mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, corn, cold carrots, grapes, apples, pineapple from a can. Even these foods have to be a certain way. I've told her pediatric about it and she said that she is at a healthy weight. They ran blood tests and everything is good. I don't understand her pickyness because I like and cook all foods. She will not eat school lunches and starve herself until she gets home. If i try to make her eat other foods, she gets very angry and evens gags on it. It's very fusturating for me. Will she grow out of it someday? or Does she might have problems with her taste buds? Please help me....

I definitely agree with Crystal, also, have your daughter make the meals.  I had this situation with both of my daughters, I bought the betty crocker kids cookbook, bought them their own utencils and apron and they actually cook one night a week.

Your situation sounds a little more serious.  I would look at another doctor.

Best wishes and good luck!  It is tough!

Part of this problem may just stem from the way she has been raised but it seriously sounds lie OCD to me. Has she ever been looked at by a child psychiatrist or a child psychologist? You would need to get a referral from your family doctor. I think that you pediatrician would do something more if there were any big concerns. She may grow out of being a picky eater someday, but that'll have to be her choice to try new foods. All you can do is keep trying to offer new foods. Remember though, she is 11 years old and has a mind of her own. I've heard that if your body is lacking some sort of vitamin, then you'll probably crave it, once you've eaten the amount needed then your body won't crave it anymore. She must be doing well if the doctor says she is fine though. Have you ever asked the doctor about taste bud issues? I've never herd of anything like this before, but anything is possible. Good luck
