Teen Self Mutilation

I just found out (from my sister who new all the time) that my 19 year old has been multilating himself for at least 2 years.  I saw the marks on him and he always said he got them from sports (he plays wrestling, football, volleyball and hand ball).  I did not believe him however he always clammed up, pushed me away (literally) or gave me this face with such anger when I tried to talk to him.  I tried to asking other's (family members, minister's from my church, social workers (he never went to appointments- and showed hatred toward me for even making the appt.) to talk to him to see if he would open up to them.  The same sister that confirmed to me yesterday was one of the initial people I asked to talk to him and she told me (before) that my son did not open up to her.  Yesterday, she said he admitted that he does it becasue he holds his feelings in.  She would not tell me more.

His aim, myspace and facebook messages are ALL of a person who is in TOTAL despair and heading down the road of suicide.  However, he ASSURES me that suicide is the LAST thing on his mind because he knows how much I have struggled to put him in college and all I've gone through to keep he and his brother, as well as the many sacrifices for he and his brother

Today is Monday and Thursday he is leaving to go to College for his Sophmore year and I am very scared.  What am I to do?

Feeling Alone Always!

I am so sorry you are having all this worry over your Boy, it does sound reading your post as if he has a problem and I do think he needs some help, they wont always listen to Moms have you a male Family member who can advise him and get some counselling for him. As he is off to college some of this may be out of your hands, but if someone could get him to seek out some help it would be a good thing, actually as he will be new he may not want to seek help through the college, again maybe a family member or yourself can get him some, he is an adult it becomes harder as you are really not in control of his actions,Good Luck
