Torticollis acquired in 16 mo. old

I am freaked out, all of a sudden my little guy's little head started leaning toward the right side.  He seems totally fine aside from that and this is totally new  The doc said it is probably due to the way he slept or some kind of strain on the muscle but I of course googled acquired torticollis and I see very scary things like tumors and spinal cord issues...  (unlike congenital torticollis which is present in infants).  I am calling a physical therapist in the am just because it is hard for me to get him to cooperate when I try to apply a heating pad to it and turn it slightly like the dr. told me.  Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks, but the weird thing in this situation is he had no neck problems before and he is now 16 months old and it has come on all of a sudden.  I appreciate your response but wonder if anyone has experienced this as a late onset like this.  Thanks.

my son had the same problem as a baby. the dr told me that his muscle in he neck was undeveloped. he also said to put him on his stomach to play and put a toy that he likes on the side that he is having problems with. my son is now 8 and he is fine, no problems at all!! good luck and i hope i lifted some of the wieght off of ur heart
