I have a 4 year old boy

as soon as he could draw he started drawing overhead diagrams of our house which show pipes in the wall going from a drain outside the house to every water appliance in the house and back again.
These drawings also have wires going from the electricity supply outside the house to electrical sockets and various electrical appliances in the house.

also as soon as he could talk he started asking people questions about countries such as where they are and what their shapes are, and he would draw pictures of what he knew. it has got to the point where he is able to draw maps of the world which show many counties in europe africa america and asia in thier correct places and with their correct shapes and many of them have a dot where their capital city is. Only far eastern countries are excluded from his maps.

is this normal for a 4 year old?

I would say you could get his IQ tested he sounds like a gifted child , how exciting that must be for you to see your son drawing pictures with so many details,he has an enquiring mind and in order to be able to feed it you may have to enroll him in a gifted programme or even one of the schools as he may be well ahead of others.in his grade.Good Luck you are in for an interesting life with your son.

This is normal for an engineer.   ;D  Ain't it grand?

Feed this by buying him electronics kits,  and really good maps and globes,  and keep him interested.
