4year old weird (homosexual?) behavior

After I finished up loading the dishwasher, I went to see what my 4 year old was up to.
He was in our room with the door closed. When I opened the door, I found him with his underwear down, infront of the tall mirror on the wall. I startled him and he pulled his underwear up and started freaking out.
I asked him what he was doing, and he whined and cried and asked me to hold him, trying to completly avoid answering. He said he wanted to go to bed (It was 4pm). So I let him lay in bed for a couple minutes, and I asked him again what he was doing. And he cried, and the 2nd time I asked him to please tell me, and he said he had his finger in his butt.
I asked him why, and he cried some more. I felt bad for pushing an answer out of him, but he has never behaved this way and i was curious what he was thinking. I asked him if he had an owie in or on his butt, and he said no. I asked if his butt itched, and he said no. And i said, then why? And he said "I just like it" and pulled his blanket over his head.
I thanked him for telling me the answer and he finally came out of his room.

Is this... normal? I can understand self exploration of his penis and body parts.. but enjoying a finger in his butt? Are these early signs of homosexuality perhaps? (I have caught him with my bra's on and make up and stuff, but he's a little boy with no father. I'm a single mom)

Some of it probably is normal exploration and you handled it well, you may want to ask a councillor if he does it a lot, and you are observant also a good thing,He could of course be copying something he has seen someone else do, so observe his friends and the people he is with when you are not there ,you could gently ask him if anyone else has done that , once he knows hes not in trouble he may open up and tell you. I doubt if its Homosexuality .
