Hyperactive 4ry old boy

Hi,

Our son is a 3 1/2 yr old . He is very bright and can grasp things very easily. He has always been  very active and hyper energy kid since he was a baby. He just started PK 3 mths back . Till then a lot of his behavior which we attributed to he being a boy or a 3 yr old, started becoming a issue now esp from the school point of view. He is restless and has trouble focusing esp on activities which he is not interested and behaves very impatiently. But if it is something of interest then it becomes difficult distracting him from that. Almost every day there is a complaint about him from school - he is not listening, he is not focussing, he is not sitting etc - but everymonth he is the first kid in the class to memorise a bible verse n recite if back to his teacher, which even his teacher finds amazing. He is very impulsive and goes wild when he gets stimulated by something of his interest. At home he is very demanding of our attention and challenges every of our disciplining efforts.  He has no fear or shyness and is so independent which is very dangerous when we take him out as he likes to wander on his own. But he can also be a very sweet smart kid when he is in the right mood and is a lil calm. He is also very affectionate and expressive. But when he gets upset he becomes physically aggressive and starts saying disrespectful things. His behavior in school and his challenging all our disciplining efforts and attention demanding traits are exerting a lot of our energy and is stressing us out completely. I am worried that he might have some problem like ADHD or Autism or something like that. Please help me , what should i do? We have tried a lot of ways to channelize his energy but to no result.

He's three years old!  Most public pre k's are really only an advantage for a child overall if your the type of person who does almost nothing with your child.  Otherwise they are only subsidized daycares,  Unless it's through a private religious school, most (not alll) of those usually have good reps.

Consider this;  Since it is pre k and not daycare they can legally put more kids of that age group in one class than they would legally be allowed to if they were in a daycare.  Kids that age usually do not learn good social skills from being in a group.

I would swear you are talking about my daughter!  She is going to be 3 next month and she does pretty much the same thing except she is not in school. Anyway, a friend of mine told me about this thing called "Early Intervention"  I guess you can take your child to them and have them tested for whatever you are worried about. I think it is through the Head Start program. When I get more info about it I let you know. I am seriously considering having my daughter tested. She can have the biggest, sweetest heart around, then something makes her mad and she says mean things and hits her baby brother or the dog. Well anyway it sounds like your son and my daughter could be twins. I too am at my wits end, I love my little girl with all my heart but sometimes I just don't know what to do. I'll let you know anything as soon as I find out.
