Advice on how to stop smoking

Last week I went to the Dr to have her check out my neck and jaw.....she was pretty sure it was my Fibromyalgia or TMJ but she ordered a CTscan anyway.

I found out my neck and jaw are fine, BUT she said in the tops of my lungs there is Emphasyma!!!!!!  Then the nurse said "stop smoking".  I said do I need meds or another specialist, she said no........not til you have symptoms.  That was the end of the phone call!

Im still stunned.  I just gave birth to my 4th child this last nov....had NO issues with breathing and had natural labor.  I also just had the Drs listen to my lungs and they say they sound totally CLEAR!

I found this all out Friday, I cut down from 20cigs to 5 cigs a day so far...........I plan on doing cold turkey tomorrow with the help of the lozenges.  Anyone have any advice that will help.  If I cant quit I will feel like a failure........and with every cig Im losing a day with my children.

Just keep in mind that the more you smoke, the less time you have to live. Emphysema is not anything to take lightly. You can add years to your life by quitting. If you want to live longer, that should motivate you.

I just want to congratulate you on quitting. That is a hard thing for me, I can quit, but staying quit is a different story.  I am struggling with it again, I am building up to a quit date as we speak. I will have to get hard candy and try that! I have to get the motivation thing going again!

I quit 9 months ago using the patch, hard candy and lots of suffering withdrawal symptoms for about 2 months before the worse was over. After the doctor told me I had emphysema, that was motivation enough for me to quit. My dad died of emphysema, so I know what the end stage will be like, not pleasant at all. Now and then, I still get an urge to smoke, but I just pop hard candy or gum in my mouth and the urge will go away before long. Good luck.
