I'll try to be brief as I can. I am 54, smoked until I was 38 years old and then quit and haven't had one since.
I am 6'1" and 320 pounds. Have high blood pressure (treated) and GERD (treated). Nine months ago (July of 2008) I contracted a bad case of the flu. My doctor prescribed tylenol, plenty of bed rest, soup, etc. Two weeks later I felt much worse and went back and my doctor called 911 as I now had a serious case of pnemonia, I was on oxygen, respirtory treatments every 4 hours,I was admitted and was in ICU for over a week and an additional week of observation before release. During that time, I had every kind of test imaginable. CT, MRI, complete blood work, X-rays
When I was released I still had this lingering cough, not very productive, but constant, and disruptive. I obviously thought it would eventually go away. I have been to my regular doctor several times and he basically tells me I have chronic broncitis (COPD) now and just have to live with it. It makes no sensel to me. I had no persistent cough before my bout with pnemonia, haven't smoked for almost twenty years, and nine months later my cough is as bad or maybe a little worse. Sometimes productive (medium to dark yellow thick mucus) and sometimes not. How could my cough not be related to my pnemonia? Never had one before that and now it is here to stay. My only prescribed treatment by my doctor for this is Combivent inhaler. Help!
