Here is my situation : approximately 10 days ago my throat got sore. It lasted for several days before it resolved on its own (I did use Strepsils, although I'm not sure how much of a role they had in my recovery). In the next several days I was completely pain free, although I had some troubles dealing with excessive mucus. So, after 2-3 days of complete absence of throat pain or discomfort for that matter, pain comes back, this time accompanied with hoarseness. It was more intense and moved from one side to another. This time pain resolved in a single day. I did still had troubles getting rid of the phlegm, though. Approximately 3 days after pain subsided another symptom appears : feelings of lump in the neck area (from the inside), and consequent shortness of breath. No pain this time. I went to the doctor and her diagnosis was viral infection. She came up with this after briefly examining my throat, she didn't have my blood tested to confirm. I know that my symptoms are not out of the ordinary, but what bugs me is the course of the disease (assuming there is a single causative agent of it). I know that is possible to reinfect yourself in cases of streptococcus throat infection but I didn't have fever, or any other symptom commonly associated with it. I'm not worried about symptoms themselves, I just find the pattern to be very unusual, certainly something I didn't experience before. So my question is if I should be worried about this? Can this be sign of weakened immune system? In your opinion, are my symptoms caused by single pathogen (is this a single infection with short dormant stages or multiple infections by different pathogens)? Did anyone else experienced resurfacing of problems in throat area? I failed to explain this to my doctor today (I didn't have time, that is), so I would really appreciate if someone would give me advice of some sort or share his/her experience with me. I'm especially interested if this might be sign of immune system problem. Thanks in advance.
