Prognosis

Thank you to all who posted responses to my question about getting a useful prognosis on idiopathic cardiomyopathy with CHF.  Sharyn5, thanks for that link I'll check it out right away.

Doctornee, thank you for explaining the differential mortality rates for different conditions.  I have a pretty severe case, with CHF and an LVEF of 20%.  I also have an ICD implant with right atrial pacing.  I have a better sense now, of what to expect and even though it's not a very rosy outlook, I find that information helpful.

Grandsiori, thanks for teh info on hereditary v. non-hereditary.  In my case it's unkown whether there is a hereditary factor, but it can't be ruled out.
I found all of your responses to be helpful.  This is a great website and an active, helpful, supportive  forum.

Thanks for the suggestion.  To be perfectly honest I can't remember exactly what they said about eligibility based on life expectancy, but they were firm in saying that by the time my condition deteriorated enought for me to be eligible I'd be too old. In other words a transplant wouldn't at that time give me enought extra years to make sense for them to give my case priority over smeone who was facing imminent death.  I'll be 70 on May 9.

We were told that you must have 18 months of life expectancy left before they put you on the transplant list. Three months isn't considered long enough to find a donor. I would consider looking for a second transplant evaluation with a different center.

I looked into the possibility of a transp[lant in November '07 and went through a series of tests for eligibility, including stress test, right hert catheter, interview, review of medications and dosages, etc.  I was told that I was ineligible because my condition wasn't yet serious enough -meaning that my life expectancy without transplant was more than three months, and that by the time I might be at that point I would be tool old to meet their guideline.  Caught in the middle.
