Waking up after Heart Valve Replacement Surgery

My mother had heart valve replacement and all her organs shut down.  After two days her lungs, heart, and kidneys started working on their own without drugs except for the heart needs a blood pressure medicine to help keep her blood pressure up.  She has been under sedation for 5 days.  Now it is time for her to awake and she has had no sedation medicine for two full days and has not awaken yet.  Does anyone know or had any experience with their loved ones as to how many days it took for them to awake after major heart surgery?  She had an EEG and no indications of stroke or bleeding in her brain.  Her biliruben is high due to her liver not functioning fully.  Her organs were perfect before surgery.

Thank you for your comment.  My Mom passed away.  She was getting better slowly for 15 days.  She was awake and sitting and standing.  Then, on the 16th day her heart got worse.  The surgeons opened the aorta valve 30 percent.  This did not work and her heart pump did not regain the strength it needed to support her organs.  All her organs failed along with her intestines.

Hi,

How is your mother? Recovery time is different for each patient and each operation. It is good that her lungs, heart, and kidneys are doing fine. The time of her waking up after surgery is really dependent on the anesthesia used.  It is important that you have open communication with your mother's doctors to entail a better understanding of the healing process. Take care and regards.

I am not familiar with the actual recovery process, but I do believe I have read that it sometimes times a little while for patients to wake from the sedation.

I hope your Mom is doing well.
