gastro CT vs "capsule endoscopy"

recently had a  gastro CT with "oral contrast". doc said all looked fine. that is good news except i'm still having the gastro issues of severe sharp pain bouts, sluggishness, headaches, dull pain right side that sometimes seems to go up to shoulder, mouth sores. i've had this for years, via diet changes and some years of no medicine.

i asked him what tests could be run if i i'm still having these issues. he said we'll rerun them.

what's the difference between that test and a "capsule endoscopy"? i simply ask as i know a few folks who had CT with contrast that showed nothing but the "capsule endoscopy" did. and why so adament about not running anymore tests that could help find an answer?

i'm just looking for some answers.

that is what found the problem with a sibling of mine too. that camera pill thing. no other test found stuff wrong and she suffterd, like you & others for years. she's doing better now.

i have MS and she doesn't yet i have had severe issues with gastro for years. yet the same standard tests come back as nothing. but i can't seem to get anyone to do the camera pill thing. so i'm changing insurance now.

a world renowned MS specialist i saw a year or so ago mentioned that MS and this crohns thing are related. i hear this more and more. when i change insurance (and pay more) i'll be able to see that particular neuro and hopefully get some help with this.

so, i'm just trying to get some answers to this particular problem.

thanks for your reply

I just had the capsule endoscopy, last month.  From what I learned the capsule "goes where noone has gone before"  The endoscopy only reaches so far down and the colonoscopy only reaches so far up.  The capsule camera sees everything in between.  It cannot take samples or remove suspicious tissue but at least they were able (for me) to find the strictures that have been making may life torture.

too late now, but i'll remember that.

this regular endoscopy, it views the entire small intestine?

Avoid CT scans because there is too much radiation.  The best test is a regular endoscopy, and if not that, then barium enema.
