Chronic Constipation

I am 35,  I have had an ostomy for the treatment of my Crohn's disease for more than 14 years.  Over the past few years I have taken more and more laxatives to relieve my constipation it is getting worse and worse now I am taking amiteza, miralax and otc correctal tablets every day and still I have cramping and pain, which is so severe I cant sleep.  I had a colonoscopy a few days ago, in which my GI doctor told me he could find nothing wrong except maybe when my ostomy surgery was done, there could be so nerve damage in my colon, but still he was at a loss to explain why I have such severe constipation, the pain is so bad it is difficult to work or do anything but lay in bed.

Oh I forgot to add in that our daughter takes in approx. 2 - 3 table spoons per day. To do a clean out (and you'll feel so much better for it) take 6 - 8 table spoons but not all at once, every 2 hours and the best way to drink the powder is with orange juice (has a bad after taste and orange juice takes care of it...), then go down to 3 table spoons per day or adjust accordingly...if you get the "runs" take less....

If my 12 year old can hack it, most adults should be able to.

Hello Sara try PEG 3350 powder - your local chemist may be able to find for you - we have it here in Ontario- if you're from Maryland you should have it available...

Our daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's at 12 (January 2008) and she's still not in remission and has gotten worse, so we're looking at perhaps Cimzia or Remicade or Humira...

She has severe constipation as well - and this stuff is the only one that has helped with bowel movements...

What it does is retain much needed moisture inthe bowels to help move - it's not a laxative like all the others...it's better...

I believe you have a "Walgreens" all over the USA - they sell this product too...
