Colitis flare during pregnancy

Hey everyone, I am about to be 16 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I have been having the worst flare I have dealt with since I was diagnosed two years ago. When I got pregnant I had been in remission for over a year, so I thought it would be alright. It was during week 10 that this flare started, and my regular meds haven't helped, even though I am still taking them it feels like it is doing no good. I have lost 7 lbs in nearly 6 weeks, when I should be gaining. A few weeks into the flare my obgyn told me to go to my regular gi doctor, and my gi doctor told me to come back later in the pregnancy, during the third trimester, when I can take steroids! This shocked me because I am having issues currently and he didn't seem to care at all about my well being. So I plan on finding a more reliable gi doctor in a bigger city. my obgyn didn't like this, so he recently put me on prednisone for a recent allergy attack, and he said it would ease my uc symptoms for a bit, and it seems to be helping. I have had diarrhea for once instead of nothing but blood and mucous for days on end. Thankfully I have a consultation with a high risk pregnancy doctor next week and they can hopefully point me in the right direction when it comes to medication during pregnancy. I don't mind what meds I take, as long as they are safe for the pregnancy.

Look into natural anti-inflammatory medications. The more chemicals you put into your body, the more risk, regardless.

Aloe water/juice
Curcumin
Wobenzym
Boswellia
Lglutamine
NAC

there are what I took (I was not pregnant but I help off surgery to remove my colon for over 2 years by taking these).

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. I am glad you will be seeing the high risk pregnancy specialist soon. Yes, there are medications which can be safely taken during pregnancy like aminosalicylates and –ASA compounds and steroids. You can also be started on biologic compounds which are usually safe. You will also need to see a dietician and you may need to make diet changes to suit your gut and pregnancy. Thus maintain a diary where in you mention what you eat throughout the day and the symptoms as they appear: amount, duration, timing etc.
You and the baby will need to be monitored very carefully while you are on medications and during flare. Usually the second and third trimester is easy as flares usually affect the first trimester and the period after delivery. Hope this helps. Take care!
