I have had UC for 8 years now and have been on 100 mg 6MP for almost as long. I have never had a problem with the medicine. Prednisone actually made me feel awful but I don't notice anything on the 6MP. I am not overweight, it just takes that much to keep my sypmtoms under control.  I am also a nurse so if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

I was on 6-MP for 5 years.  It was a miracle drug for me until I got pancreatitis a couple of years ago.  If I remember correctly, the severity of the disease and also the weight of the person is supposed to be a factor as to how high the dose.  My blood levels were checked EVERY month while I was on it.  I am 5"6 and while on 6-MP (75 mg)  I weighed roughly 120 or more.  I had gotten very sick with C-diff and my weight dropped to nearly 100 and then I got pancreatitis.  I can't remember anything else.  But I would recommend talking with your dr. about your concern of pancreatitis and making sure he/she is monitoring your child monthly.

My hair thinned slightly but nothing a stranger would notice.  I would get sick to my stomach in the morning if I didn't eat right away.  I found that a glass of soy milk first thing settled my stomach.

I was put on 6-mp a couple of years ago. It made me extremely sick and I ended up in the hospital with severe dehydration. The doctor wasn't sure if I had gotten sick from the meds or from my crohns so he put me back on it and sure enough I got sick again. I am 24 years old and I have had Crohns for almost 7 years and nothing has worked for me. I have heard good things about 6-mp though. I guess it all depends on the person. I will never try that drug again though.
Good luck with everything.
