Pooping question

I've been diagnosed with crohn's for a little over 4 and 1/2 years and for the past couple days I have been very constipated. II have pooped very little yesterday and today but it is very painful. I feel like I'm walking around with bricks in my stomach. I've been taking stool softeners for the past few days and took stool softeners with laxative in it about an hour or so ago.

I am on a no fiber diet and all fiber bothers my stomach greatly. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it!!!

Thanks very much
-Erin

Have you been getting plenty of exercise?  If you can't take a fiber supplement, then I would suggest getting a saline enema.  I have been through the same thing that lasted almost a week.  I finally had to get some prescription strength laxative liquid plus Zelnorm.  It was awful and we were at the beach!  Just to lay it all out there for you, once the meds kicked in.....I was in so much pain, I was vomiting.  I had to don a rubber glove and remove it manually at first!  Once I got it started, i was fine after that.  I spent the rest of the day on the beach and was fine.  Having a sedentary lifestyle can cause constipation.  You really do not want to go more than two days without having a BM.  It can cause a lot of problems!  BTW, if fiber bothers your stomach, that may be just what you need to get things started....

Welcome to our Crohn's Community where we hope you can get the advice and support you need, from other sufferers.

Your current symptoms could be caused by a stricturing (narrowing) in your small intestine or colon, which is causing an obstruction.  Diet cannot fix this.  I would suggest you get in touch with your gastro and ask for an MRI scan, which will show any strictures.  I have just been dx with 2 distal ileum strictures in  my small intestine, where Crohn's started, some 38 yrs ago! I sound like Methusaleh!! A strictureplasty can be done through an endoscope without doing open surgery, if the narrowing has not progressed too much. If it has, then resection of the affected part(s) may be necessary.

Take care - and, please, see your gastro if your symptoms last more than 2 weeks.

Hi. If I was you I'd see my doctor, check if there is any complications and if not... I suggest taking Psyllium Husk to move the bowles. After I started using the Psyllium Husk I have not had any problem with this. I solve the husk in warm cup of water and stir is well for 10 minutes os so, before I consume it. Can get it an any healt store.
