Several symptoms points at crohns, or celiac disease

My son frequently has to run for a bathroom shortly after eating (mostly if it is away from home). He has irregular bowel movements, and in school, was running to the bathroom almost once a class period.  He is being tested for crohns, celiace and ibd. The doctor put him on a no wheat, no art. flav, no art. color, no lactose and no fried foods. He is 16 years old.  Now, he complains of being tired, weak, headace at the base of his head, his knees shake and give out on him.  All this is following an unknow mass surrounding his testicle (surgery removed the mass) in January. Then in March, he began losing his hair (head, arms, legs, eyelashes, brows, private areas).  Now this digestive issue. Does anyone see a familiar flow of symptoms?

Forget all the business about irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, etc.  It took me many years of being treated for colitis, irritable bowel, anemia and many colonoscopes before the reason was finally found. I have CELIAC (SPRUE) DISEASE.  What is it. It means I my digestive tract cannot tolerate gluten. Gluten is in everything. Buy a book read about it and make sure you cut gluten out of your diet. No WHEAT PRODUCTS.  NO CARAMEL or anything that comes from wheat. That includes beer and whiskey. It will take awhile for your intestine to grow back the villi which the gluten has destroyed.  Gluten for a celiac is like someone taking sandpaper to your intestine. You have no villi to absorb the food you eat and there for become malnourished and have an excess of gas, bloating, and mucus in the stool.  Your doctor can give you a blood test which if positive follow up with an endoscopy. Many just go gluten free and find the symptoms disappear.  No medicine and no cure just stay off gluten.

Sorry your wee fella is having to go through this. I really hope that you guys get an answer ASAP! I know what all the waiting is like, and it is not nice. Is it left side or right side where he gets this pain?

He has had some blood tests done, and we go on Wednesday to get some results.  He has shown no blood in his stool, just frequent loose bowels.  He passes gas a lot and when he does, look out!  It is bad, makes you hide your nose!  The diet has helped his bathroom issue at least a noticeable amount.  he gets "crampy" between his belly button and his upper groin area.  His father has an autoimmune problem (psoriasis, skin disorder) and his alopecia totalis is autoimmune related too I am told.  He is adjusting to the diet ok (except I am going broke with all the pricey food!).

Hi Lynn,

I suffer from chrons and some of what your son is going through I have went through. What tests have they carried out on your son? Have they done blood tests yet? Have the arrange for a colonoscopy or a small bowel folluw through? Chrons is an IBD na dit will also involve bloody bowel movements. Has he had them? Also, does he pass mucus with his bowel movements? Always alot of wind?

His symptoms can be chrons releated, but it is strange that he is being treat for celiace without being tested. Also, blood test should show inflammation in the bosy which is a good start.
