It does feel like winter. The rain is needed and welcomed.
However besides our usual winter blooming calla lilies, primroses, camellias and narcissus, I've seen iris, angel trumpet trees, princess trees and magnolias in full bloom as if it's the height of Spring.
Odd, very odd.
It finally feels like winter here in N. California, rain and wind, cold. I was driving in it this morning feeling so delighted that winter finally came to us and I thought of y'all shoveling snow and in below zero weather and felt truly humbled.
Stay warm everyone!
No thanks, my old bones hurt bad enough as it is.... -11??? Whew...
I'll trade with you. It's -24C here today, which converts to about -11 F. Temps have dropped and it's this and colder the rest of the week for us.
Well since the world didn't end toady (guess the Myans were off a bit ) ,,,,, wanna trade places???
22 right now....
Here where I live, it is not getting out of the 60's today with high wind, going into the thirtys overnight and by christmas back to the 80's. I guess I have to wear shoes today. But it beats the ice and snow the rest of the country is experiencing I guess. Yesterday it was in the 80's. YUCKERS
2 days ago I had a nice ride in the Kansas country with the temps in the 50's, today I shoveled snow from my driveway with the temps in the 20's.
I guess that's fairly typical weather since the end of the world is coming tomorrow right ( 12 21 12 )???lol
We've kind of been all over the place, too, but not as bad as some places. We had a few cold nights (upper 30's), and the days were chilly (60"s), but we've pretty much gotten back to "normal" now. It's upper 40's and 50's at night warming to around 80 during the day. Right now, it's 51 and not daylight yet, so will cool off a couple degrees before the sun comes up.
It's very, very dry and we desperately need rain. Some days, we've had more wind than is normal for us.
40's, 50's and 60"s? I would love to have that! No joke, around here you'll see people in shorts with that. We are a bit warmer then average today and it was about 19.
It's just been weird here since the end of summer. Typically the seasons here are quite distinct, but this year we skipped fall altogether and moved straight into winter. It's the first time I can remember the leaves coming down on top of the snow! (makes raking rather difficult, and you should have seen my son's leaf encrusted snow man...lol) We quite literally went from shorts straight into Parkas. I didn't even have time to harvest all my tomatoes and lost so many of them - they turned black.
Now we are having quite a few more then normal Chinook's. A Chinook wind is a warm front that will move in (due to our high altitude and super close proximity to the Rocky Mountains I believe) and really warm things up. So our temps are all over the place - warm, freezing, warm, freezing - it's crazy! And more snow on the ground I think then normal for us. We've had snow on the ground since early October. Summer temps were warmer then average this year too. I'm hoping for an early spring - last few years we had snow right into June.
Windy and warm all day long traveling from W. Tx. to Austin. 11:00 P.M. like a warm spring night. Supposed to get down well below freezing tomorrow night.
Well here in RI. our weather has been all over the place.. Last week we were in the high 50s and low 60s..This week, it windy as H3ll and chilly mid 40s consistently. Not freezing cold but brisk enough (because of the wind) where you need a light sweater under your Jacket. we had snow once and it went away as quickly as it came...This time last year, we were SLAMMED with 3 snow storms already...
