Not everyone with PTSD have been in a war, outside the U.S.
My point exactly... why is the media portraying one in a different light? Both could be classified as hate crimes by its description alone. Both targeted a specific group of people, right?
What we need to do is quit labeling things. This was a yet another douche bag (sorry for that label) who decided to go shooting. It is a mass murder and that is the only label it deserves. We need to quit categorizing things like this.... it does nothing.
Labels go to benefiting or damaging a specific cause. Labeling eventually leads to a bit more finger pointing.
My husband and I spoke about whether to call this terrorism.
His view was that, for example those snipers a few years back, were terrorists.
They terrorized the whole area.
Though this is a terrible crime, I'd call it a hate crime because it was aimed at a specific group of people.
The guy in the movie theater ? Not sure what to call him other than plum wacko.
Okay, so my question then is, for a moment putting the labels aside, are you saying that the crimes are not comparable? Is one sick soldier who is of Middle Eastern descent worse than the "white guy" who killed people at prayer?
You are the one bringing up the racial nonsense you are so quick to jump on...
This guy was never overseas, so take out the PTSD talk or anything about a war, he never set foot outside of America while on duty.
So the shooter at FT Hood, who yelled racial remarks and was of a different race than those he shot at doesn't qualify??? On military base??? What more could the shooter at FT Hood do to make this qualify as a hate crime? He clearly is against America, and said so himself.
(The reason the lame stream media wont call Ft. Hood a domestic terror attack is because it involves someone from the middle east....) They cannot label nor can they "racial profile" so that exempts the Ft. Hood incident.
Because the attack on the Temple was a hate crime, racially motivated.
My point in bringing it up is that there have been soldiers returning from war who are seriously ill. I am sympathetic to a degree, just as I am sympathetic to a murderer who himself was tortured most of his life. It is ugly and sad.
However, it does not excuse the killers actions. He is as bad as the man who killed people in Aurora. There is no difference in the evil he committed.
Just thought of this... why will the media call this instance a "domestic terrorism" but not the thing at Ft. Hood? There is a major reluctance to call that situation "domestic terrorism".
Too many labels.... we are getting in our own way with things like this.
I am sad for the victims of this terrorist's violence.
This just keeps getting more and more sad.....

I was wondered who committed this horrendous scene.
Now it is obvious it was a hate crime committed by an Army vet, no doubt compounded by PTSD. It said he was a skinhead.
Yet, more casualties of our endless wars.
I agree with you. Intolerance is the real issue.
It is something that each and every one of us need to be aware of, within ourselves and our communities.
Somebody above mentioned a point in time where we would not be able to own guns. Couple of problems with that. Law abiding citizens who've never committed any crime will not give their guns up (knowing that bad guys will still have them) and that will make them criminals, and.... criminals/bad guys will never give up their guns.
The anti gun establishment will be very proud of this day, but then they will wonder why gun crimes are still being committed and then they'll wonder about the rise in other violent crimes. People using knives, baseball bats, hammers, improvised explosives, booby traps.... and the good news with that is there will still be dead people.
I think this is more about intolerance than guns. People not being able to accept the fact that all people are not like them or live in their box of who is or isnt acceptable in our world. Its sad when you cannot even attend church or a movie these days without literally taking your life in your hands doing it.
There's the bottom line -- the victim's and their families.
This really isn't about gun control, though discussion of gun control inevitably comes from tragedies, such as this, and others like it. This is about the senseless waste of human lives, happening right here, in our own back yards.
Sadly, someone who is intent on killing is going to find a way. I wish there were answers, but I'm just not so sure they exist. It seems there are more and more of these kinds of stories every day. What's happened?
If someone wants to create mayhem and destruction they don't need a gun to do it. Remember when IRA ( the Irish Republic Army) was bombing buildings and vehicles ? It's not about guns although I'm one of those who like the fantasy of melting all the guns down. All of them, everywhere.
This is a very sad incident. My heart goes out to the victim's families.
" criminals will get their guns, one way or another, while those of us who try to follow the laws, will, eventually, lose ours, through gun control."
You are so right. I was talking to my husband about this horrible tragedy today and he said pretty much the same thing. He thinks there's going to come a point in time when those of us that are sane and competent and responsible with our firearms are no longer going to have the right to own them. I just think it's insane how easy it is to get a gun off the street. I find it CRAZY that it happens here so often. I mean how did all of these illegal guns get on the streets?? Why the H3LL is it so easy???
Is this really about gun control? Or is about morals and ethics.. living with our fellow man and tolerating different points of view?
"I do know it's VERY easy to get a gun illegally than it is to get one Legally" - says it pretty clearly.... criminals will get their guns, one way or another, while those of us who try to follow the laws, will, eventually, lose ours, through gun control.
"Millions of gun owners didn't do anything wrong today and that will never reach the nightly news."
I agree 100%....I've said this once and I'll say it again. It's NOT the gun that kills, its the person holding the gun...I can't say I have the solution to Gun Control but I do know that owning a gun is NOT the problem. Maybe there should be psychological evaluations performed on everyone that wants to purchase a gun. Maybe the waiting period should be longer. Who knows? I do know it's VERY easy to get a gun illegally than it is to get one Legally. SO how do we fix the problem??? I guess that's the million dollar question.
I am not minimizing what happened at all..... maybe if we can look at how many gun owners did not fly off the handle and do something like this. It takes one nut to ruin the bunch? Really? Millions of gun owners didn't do anything wrong today and that will never reach the nightly news.
How very very sad. I too have to ask what is wrong with people. All these incidents are so tragic and senseless, but for whatever reason, for me it seems even sadder given that it took place in a house of worship. People can't even worship safely anymore.
OMG!!...What is wrong with people??...Goodness gracious!
There's a lot more news coming out out, now.
Another horrible tragedy!! What are we coming to?
