"I think the idea of them going back to school though not the same school where the shooting took place, is indeed the best and quickest way to resume a sense of normalcy."
I do agree with this....
Yup, you get thrown off a horse ( equestrians do not fall, they are thrown`lol) you get back on. Otherwise the fear can increase.
As someone, who's fallen, or been thrown from my share of horses and bikes, it works.
I think the idea of them going back to school though not the same school where the shooting took place, is indeed the best and quickest way to resume a sense of normalcy.
Can't say for certain what I'd do if it were my kid though. Once our emotions kick in, all logic can go out the window.
"The gal talking said that it is our (parents/adults) fear that can affect a child." Without a doubt. Our daughter became afraid of heights, because her dad is and she grew up hearing the comments/stories. It can happen with a lot of situations.
I don't know if I could make that kind of decision so soon...But then again I wouldn't want myself or my kid living in fear of 'what if".....I don't envy those parents...I hope the all find solace and I hope whatever decisions they make, is in the BEST interest of those children....
I also heard something similar. The gal talking said that it is our (parents/adults) fear that can affect a child. It is us being apprehensive, showing our emotions that the kids pick up on, and I guess I can see some of that.
"I heard a shrink say that they should go back to the scene relatively quickly.....for PTSD. I don't know about that but it sounded reasonable when I heard it."
They always say "If you fall off a horse, you should get right back on again"; supposedly, it works, but in the case of the shootings, I don't know if I could send my kids right back to that school. Though, I suppose that keeping them out it, could create a basic fear, in the long run.
What a decision.
Me too, mike. I heard the quicker they return to normalcy, the better. It sends them the message that their world is okay, and hasn't fallen apart.
Jesus, though...*I* had trouble sending mine off today, how could you do it? It would be SO hard! :0(
Those poor souls!
I heard a shrink say that they should go back to the scene relatively quickly.....for PTSD. I don't know about that but it sounded reasonable when I heard it.
Our kids are supposed to go through Friday of this week and then back after the first of the year..... I couldn't send my kids back yet.... I'd be looking for alternatives at every turn.
Our county schools are currently on Christmas break (Fri was the last day), and won't go back until after the first of the year, but if they weren't and I had kids in school......... yep, a "really" long Christmas break.
Right now, my kids would be taking the longest Christmas break in recorded history.
