I'm not sure if I could or would ever be fired due to dumb things posted on FB, but it could certainly stall my career. We do and are expected to present a certain image, and rightly so. We are in the public eye, and it's important. I guess I will just understand why people feel the need to post certain things on FB. Oh, and now that I know your on there......lol.
My opinion is, posting it was stupid. When you become a Teacher, Coach, etc. being a Role Model goes with the job. At first I thought both should have been reprimanded but she was the one that posted it. I think she should have been reprimanded but getting fired over it was a little harsh. My page is anything but G Rated and I am constantly deleting things I post. The Company I work for couldn't care less as long as I am making them money (but I never put my "Dirty Laundry" or discuss my Job on FB). I started my FB account because I have a small family that is scattered all over the country and friends that are also scattered all over the country and it was nice staying in touch. I now have 183 (+-) friends. I find it hard to believe there are 183 people that really like me let alone are my friends.
Well, I wouldn't consider this a fireable offense, but I can say this. I know of more then one person who has thrown away their career over dumb things posted on facebook. I also know that many prospective employers will check someones facebook page to see the sorts of things they post. I am super careful about what goes on my page. I keep it completely "g" rated - the world does not need to know everything.
Ridiculous..Its not like she was naked and on school property.. I mean it's her personal face book, it's her fiance, they were on vacation, like WTF???..
