GOP offers own proposal to avert 'fiscal cliff'

http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/03/15649000-gop-offers-own-proposal-to-avert-fiscal-cliff?lite

A snippet from the article:

"As Republicans put it, they would raise $800 billion in new revenue through tax reform, $600 billion in health savings, $200 billion from changes to the Consumer Price Index, $300 billion in discretionary spending cuts, and another $300 billion in savings in mandatory spending. Many of the health savings track closely with the changes to Medicare first proposed in Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan’s budgets.

Republicans say the plan, using the Obama administration’s math, would achieve $4.6 trillion in savings.

It’s unclear, though, whether the Republican plan would move toward ending the stalemate around the fiscal cliff negotiations, with less than a month remaining until the automatic tax hikes and spending cuts are scheduled to snap into place on Jan. 1."

There is a constant theme about all of us here supporting him like it is a huge crime or something. Of course those of us who voted for him support him, as we are familiar with the message he has run on and that message has not changed, it has been consistent.

Remarks like Obama must own this econemy and blah blah blah are old. Facts will tell you that it was not Obama who trashed the econemy (fox) will tell you otherwise. Well from where I live, I paid a hefty price for the demise under The previous administraion and as such of course I and over half the country that feels the way I do are gonna support his policies, as that is what we voted for.

The policies that this president run on is priority as he is the one who won the election. He has said for the last year and a half that he would never again compromise on those tax cuts, yet here we are again with a plan being put out there disregarding his statements. And you think he should back down from it? I dont, nor do those who voted for him. I bit the bullet when the recession hit, we lost our healthcare, took a cut in wages as well and I think I have earned the right to call it as I see it as well. Romney comes in and offers a redo of the same things that hurt my house and I voted against a do over.

You said:I honestly wouldn't run my own home's finances the way he proposes to run this countries.

And I definitely do not want my house run the way Bush ran his. So you see, we have more in common than not, and for many of the same reasons.

You said: One of the things that could have easily cost Obama the election is the state of the economy after his first 4 years in office.  It is easy to blame everyone else including the previous president and give Obama a pass (which seems to be the popular thing to do here)---

Which is exactly what the majority felt when they re elected him. It is not exclusive to this forum.

It was not Obama's policies that got us where we are

You can't be serious?  Obama owns NONE of the situation we're in?  ALL of the administrations have responsibility, INCLUDING Obama.

It baffles me how anyone could think he's done nothing to contribute to this mess and think his ONLY job is clean up duty!  Clean up of Bush's mess.  Talk about giving it a rest?  This is Obama's second term...he's getting a second chance.  Will he be held responsible at ALL if things continue to go down the drain, or will it still be Bush's and the GOP's fault?

We critisize the GOP plenty....there is a lot they do that we don't agree with.  Yes, we're biased, but we're not blind.

I reserved my judgement about Obama.  I wish him well as his success is my success.  I have come to the conclusion that obama is a man/politician like any other.  It has nothing to do with him personally as he seems like a great husband/father and that is something I always admire.

But I didn't vote for Obama because I don't like his policies.  You are right.

And once again, you'd think I was part of a teeny tiny group that doesn't like Obama's policies.  I'm part of that 49% of the country (roughly almost HALF).

I was telling you that I'm trying to give it a rest by putting my head down and trying to survive the next four years.  But that is how I see Obama as president.

Give it a rest?  Okay.  Sure.  Should I say "talk to you in four years"?  forget it Teko.  I can comment about how this guy appears to me and I can doubt him and his policies all I want to.  You certainly have NOOO problem going on and on about the GOP.

Well the bottom line is obviously you don't like Obama or his policies and that is the only thing here that is clear, over and over and over again. It was not Obama's policies that got us where we are and I think it is time for the republicans to own that . talk about making excuses. You can make them for bush and hold Obama responsible for saying he needs to quit talking about it and own it? Yeah, we as a nation have had no choice but to own the previous administrations policies, so what is up with singing praises of the one that trashed the economy and dissing the one cleaning it up?

Fact is, the majority of the voting republic disagree with you and its time to give it a rest.

True, but his proposal does paint a bit of a picture.

The truth is none of us knows what went on when Romney and Obama met and what exactly is going on in anyone else's mind and certainly not Obama's.
