Obama Trade Document Leaked

Obama Trade Document Leaked, Revealing New Corporate Powers and Broken Campaign Promises

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/13/obama-trade-document-leak_n_1592593.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D169383

WASHINGTON -- A critical document from President Barack Obama's free trade negotiations with eight Pacific nations was leaked online early Wednesday morning, revealing that the administration intends to bestow radical new political powers upon multinational corporations, contradicting prior promises.

The leaked document has been posted on the website of Public Citizen, a long-time critic of the administration's trade objectives. The new leak follows substantial controversy surrounding the secrecy of the talks, in which some members of Congress have complained they are not being given the same access to trade documents that corporate officials receive.

"The outrageous stuff in this leaked text may well be why U.S. trade officials have been so extremely secretive about these past two years of [trade] negotiations," said Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch in a written statement.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has been so incensed by the lack of access as to introduce legislation requiring further disclosure. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has gone so far as to leak a separate document from the talks on his website. Other Senators are considering writing a letter to Ron Kirk, the top trade negotiator under Obama, demanding more disclosure.

The newly leaked document is one of the most controversial of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact. It addresses a broad sweep of regulations governing international investment and reveals the Obama administration's advocacy for policies that environmental activists, financial reform advocates and labor unions have long rejected for eroding key protections currently in domestic laws.

Under the agreement currently being advocated by the Obama administration, American corporations would continue to be subject to domestic laws and regulations on the environment, banking and other issues. But foreign corporations operating within the U.S. would be permitted to appeal key American legal or regulatory rulings to an international tribunal. That international tribunal would be granted the power to overrule American law and impose trade sanctions on the United States for failing to abide by its rulings.

The terms run contrary to campaign promises issued by Obama and the Democratic Party during the 2008 campaign.

And if there is nothing to this, it wont matter either because it has been put out there in this form and has already done the damage intended. The amount of distortion and downright made up lies by all concerned is nauseating. I still say this would be something to good for the republicans to pass on, unless they too are on board. I dont think most of America could not believe that as well. Regardless I am on this and will stay on it to see what comes of it if anything.

If there is anything there, lame stream media won't touch it.  if they do take a look at it, they will do all they can to say that the President had "nothing to do with it".  I think the majority of America would and could believe that.  Find the leak and string him/her up.....

I have looked hi and lo to find a non partisan report on this article. Not sure that I have achieved that but here is a link that goes a little further in its description of the whys and hows.

Im not saying if this be true or not true but I went and looked thru all 50something pages of the alleged leaked document. It supposedly is a chapter of the document. There are NO indentifying factors as to what this is, when it was devised or by whom. No dates nothing. So I shall continue in my search. Still nothing from the media, maybe there will be something on the Sunday political shows. Nothing from the factchecking sights as yet so with that, It is still an alleged status for me. :(

You got it...... it's all being swept under the rug......... we won't hear anything about it on so called "mainstream news". Why should that be a surprise to anyone?

Just a thought.... I think everyone mentioned in the above comments stands to gain something from this, financially speaking.   Boehner , McConnell, Romney, Obama and the majority of these puppets are making a buck somewhere in this...  I honestly believe that it has come to this.

I'm sticking with Reuters, CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera.

CNN has some spin, and they appear to have some sort of agenda (although I'll be darned if I can pinpoint exactly what it is), but those 4 sites seem to have the most comprehensive global overview, and the least amount of Left/Right spin-doctoring (as far as US news goes anyway).

That's okay, I don't put a lot of stock in many sites (not necessarily these), either.  It's all about whether they lean a particular direction or not.  I'm still looking for more info, too.

I think that means YES... the (7) sites you listed are being dis-counted.

Yes  Nothin on any of the airwaves at all regarding this. But I will keep an ear out and if I do hear anything will listen intently. I just cannot imagine something as huge as this would be, being a non story for Romney and friends.

Hmmm - I guess you're discounting the 7 sites, I posted as "not a mention anywhere".

No I wouldnt expect liberal leaning sites to make a big deal out of it, nor would I expect right leaning sights to make a small deal out of it. But if it were true,
Republicans  would be out in front of the camera squealing with glee is what I am saying and that aint happened. Dems would be out in front doing damage control. Non a mention anywhere so far.

Yes, these might be "right leaning" sites; you wouldn't expect liberal sites to make a big deal of it, would you?  But don't miss the fact that dems don't like the secrecy either.

Well its looking like antics to fire up ones base so far. Nothing on the news anywhere. This is a good example of what fires me up! If there was anything to this I am quite sure the media would be running with the story and Romney would have already had a press conference, Boehner would be out there as well not to mention Mitch McConnel. And even Obama himself. In a few days the factchecking site will be able to clear it up im sure. In the interim I will continue to watch and listen.

I have looked high and lo and the only sights carrying this so far are right wing. So far no major news networks are carrying this or local either. I will continue to look.

Well first of all dont we have a problem right now with leaks? Who did this? Is it legit or another election antic? The republicans were blaming the Obama administration for the leaks so it would help him. This does not appear to help him at all so what gives? I would love to get to the bottom of this one. I think I will dig around and get back to ya on this. Very interesting.
