Needing Reassurance

My periods have long cycles. Typically 48-50 days. I know my body well though and track ovulation via an app on my iPhone that is extremely accurate as to my expected periods etc. According to the app, I would have ovulated on Dec 27th. I had a one nighter on Dec 20th late night... (Technically the 21st) with man A. I then slept with my bf the 23rd and the 27th unprotected. I had an ultrasound at 5 wks 5 days (on jan 22nd) and was given a due date of Sept 19th. I went back a week later for another u/s and was given the same due date and in fact was told I was 6 wks 5 days then as well. The tech told me that my conception date was the 27th. Any chance for man A to be the father from sex on the 20th?

I've heard that even if it can survive to day 6 or longer, its oomph is questionable by then.  Some researchers doubt that a 6-day sperm can penetrate the egg.

Early ultrasounds measure the baby from crown to rump and look at its developmental markers.  In the 5th, 6th or 7th week, they can be super precise, since the cells divide at a known rate (going from one to two in the first day, two to four in the second day, etc.)  After a while some babies can begin to develop faster than others, which is why by the 12th week, doctors will give a margin for error of plus or minus 7 days or more.  But early ultrasounds can be spot on.

If you don't know which of two people is the father, getting an ultrasound by your 6th or 7th week, asking the tech for an estimated due date based on the embryo's size and markers, and counting back from the EDD, is the most reliable way to guess at conception until the day you get a DNA test.

Is it not true that those early ultrasounds are a very close indicator of ovulation day? Since I had two separate ones exactly a week apart and they both said the same dates etc I was banking on my ovo date being pretty spot on. I know sperm has been documented to stay alive for 7 days but how rare is that...don't they say the average is only 3-5 in the most optimal conditions??

It really sounds like the first guy was too early, but unfortunately not by enough that you could say a thousand percent not.  I agree with the tech that you would have ovulated around the 27th.

I know that an app is a total estimate but it was just a piece of the puzzle that i thought id add along with what the ultrasounds said...and although my cycles arent average in length.. theyre pretty consistent. I also took a urine test with a weeks estimator on the 8th and it said i had ovulated 1-2 weeks ago

Even though an app has no way to tell when you actually ovulated (it just guesses going by average cycles) I would say that IF you did actually ovulate on or around 27th December, then sex on 20th December would have been too far away from ovulation to result in pregnancy.

I would say your boyfriend is the father.
