Burning/Itchy tongue

I have had a burning/itchy tongue, particularly worsening into the evening.  My tongue becomes painful if I try to chew minty gum, or use toothpaste or mouthwash.  I've found that some nights it even swells up a little.  What could be causing this problem?  I've had it for nearly a year. :(

If there is no systemic or local disease contributing to burning tongue condition, clonazepam lozenge is the treatment of choice. In addition, nutritional supplement Vitamin B1,B6,B12, folic acid , alpha lipoid acid, as well as omega3 fatty acid may also be helpful.
