dentist left a hole to drain is that normal
Went to the dentist for pain ect with newly filled tooth. He put a hole in the tooth (number 23) to drain and I go back in 3 weeks for root canal. 1st question is it normal to leave a hole? 2) wont that hole hurt like hell when numbing wears off? 3) shoudnt he have taken an xray since my xrays are 1 year old? And he said nothing came out of the hole so he thinks it was gases or something built up in there......sound right? Sorry with all the ?s but I got the courage up to get these teeth done finally and I want them done right! Thank you.

If there is pus present, leaving the access opening without temporary sealing to facilitate drainage of pus may be beneficial.However, 24-48 hours is generally adequate. Leaving the endodontic access open without temporary sealing may encourage oral bacteria entering the root canal and resulting in subsequent bone infection.
I have Pennsylvania medical assistance and without a referral I can only go to this dentist. Could you explain why you suggest this? I will wait to hear back with your answer and perhaps call the 800 number to see if there is anyway I can see one without a referral. Thank you.
that sounds very weird ,and yeah your tooth is open which means NERVES are exposed , expect to hurt like hell . why didnt he take x-rays ?
