Problem with Teeth & Gums

Hi,

a few weeks ago I noticed that one of my teeth was swollen and then saw that it looks like another tooth is coming up behind it (see photo). So I went out and got one of those dental mirrors, and I also noticed that there is a hole in the lower backside of my gums where you can see the teeth... hard to explain, english isn't my native language. But, I pointed an arrow to it where it's in the photo.

I am going to the dentist next week or the week after that, but would be nice to know what it might be and what has to be. I haven't been to the dentist in over a year due to moving and two surgeries... and I had no problems with my teeth until a few weeks ago.. i know excuses :P But, my old dentist was known for trying to talk you into things so just would be nice to know what I can expect when going next week.

Also, can my gums be having problems due to my Neuropathy (my gums go numb when chewing gum or sometimes when brushing my teeth)? Or because I switched to a electric toothbrush a few weeks ago?

Thanks a lot for your help :)

Well, I went to the dentist and the lower-left tooth is fractured. Going to go to a specialist and have it fixed.

As far as my other problem, the dentist did not see anything... I did forget to mention the "hole" but they said everything is fine so I'm not too worried.

Gellia, Thanks for your help :)

Hi,
It's really impossible to tell from a picture but it appears to be the tooth itself and the gum has receded from it.  It looks like all one piece.

You really need it checked.  I wish I could help further but diagnosis over the internet is never a good idea when physical examination is warranted.

GOOD LUCK and do let us know what your dentist says.

My best to you,
Gellia
