What Stinks???!!!

Please Help Us!!

I have been dealing with a very loud & very offensive smell ( it almost seems like gas fumes or something; it travels pretty far out)since mid April 2009.  I had been on a wild goose chace trying to locate the source of the smell.  About 6 weeks ago, I narrowed the source to a root canal done 15 years ago on a lower left molar.  After having the tooth extracted, the dentist stated that my actual tooth had split in half up under the crown, & that it wasn't visible on x-ray because the crown was in the way.  The smell seemed to go down for about 2 days, & then it came back.  I went to 3 different dentist to determine why the smell was still there, & all I got was "what smell?"  They examined the site & stated that it was healing as should.  If anything hits the site, air, food, water, anything, the smell/gas gets way worse!  Finally, I went back to my dentist & another dentist working in the office suggested that it may be the pink granulation tissue (scar tissue) that is causing the smell.  Is this possible?  Can a small amount of pink tissue be causing a smell that's so loud, people can literally smell it 10 feet away from me..outside?! I know its not an infection because I took antibodies times after time when the smell first came, & they didn't do anything for the smell.  Please help me to figure out what the heck is the problem!  I am on the verge of losing my job over this.  No one wants to be around me!

You may have to go to an oral surgeon to have the socket that held the tooth cleaned out because it sounds like a chronic infection if all the dentist did was remove the tooth.  From what I understand, it would not show up on an x-ray.  The antibiotics you took may not have been the right ones.  Try brushing with a baking soda and hydrogen peroxide paste once a day.  (See www.mamagums.com)  Garlic is a natural antibiotic.  Try chopping some up and adding it to a salad or sandwich.  Green tea and ginger tea may help, too.  Ginger works against bacteria, viruses, and yeast.

Most halitosis (maloder) come from volatile sulfide compound, which is produced by oral bacteria.it appears that your dentists could not smell maloder.VSC can be detected by halitometer, which can objectively measure the amount of VSC. You may need to see a dentist who can determine the presence of vsc. If vsc is present, the source of vsc needs to be investigated.
