how is a partial plate adjustment done?

I just received a three tooth partial upper plate.  It needs an adjustment.  Does the dentist do this or does it have to be sent away to a lab.  It doesn't fit or "click" into place because of a boney outpatch on my gumline.

The dentist should be able to do the adjustments in the office.

assuming the framework itself fits pretty well the dentist should be able to adjust it.
