if not tumor, what?

I have a hard bump above my top right back tooth on gum.  My dentist said it wasn't bone/tooth it is gum/soft tissue issue.  No pain, abscess, swelling or inflammation.  He wants me to see a periodontist, I will.  But, I was wondering, ahead of appointment ,what other possibilities than a cancerous tumor?  The color isn't any different from the rest of my gums. It is smooth.  Can it be just excess hard fibrous tissue growth or something less frightening than cancer?  Thank you.

This discussion is related to lump in outside of gum above upper incisor.

Thank you, Gellia.

I will let you know what I find out.  I've also read where hard fibrous nodules are also common since my last writing.

Hi,
I may just be a small benign cyst.  Please don't worry about it needlessly.  They are quite common.

It's good that you are going to have it further checked.  That's handling it correctly.
See what your periodontist has to say.

Good luck and do let is know what they find.
My best to you,
Gellia
