I am 31 and am on my 3rd KCOT recurrence in the past 6 years and this will be my 3rd surgery. I strongly recommend getting an oral maxillofacial surgeon. I made the mistake of staying with an ENT and that has left me with another huge KCOT that has eroded more of my maxilla and jaw. Thankfully no visible deformity but they are very aggressive and have a high recurrence rate. Now my oral surgeon wants to do a laforte 1 procedure which is removing the top jaw cleaning out the KCOT and then putting it back. That is exactly how he said it to. oh ya just take that off and put it back on no biggie...These things suck DO NOT GOOGLE THIS STUFF-- stay with reputable sites. Good luck
just realized this was from 2010 what did you end up doing
I was diagnosed with KCOT about two and a half years ago. I've had two surgeries now to remove the tumor. The surgeries really aren't that invasive and I bounced back pretty quickly-I would say within a week if not sooner. The biggest problem is the high recurrence rate of the tumor. So once you get it removed you have to go in for check ups every 6 months and the tumor could start growing back as soon as a couple years after removal. Since my surgeries I've had really bad allergies that I never had problems with before and periodically I get pains in my right maxillary cavity. I would suggest consulting with an oral surgeon first and discussing your options. Hope this helped a bit.
