i have that problem too. mine is from dry mouth caused by inhalers and meds i take for COPD. i bought a tongue brush and it seems to work ok. use a mouth wash for dry mouth there are many out there. don't eat anything after you brush your teeth at night and drink plenty of water, it will help wash away anything on your tongue. as for the color of the build up it's probably the last thing you ate or drank coke or pepsi will leave a brown stain etc. as far as thrush, it is usually at the very back of your mouth that causes pain when you swallow and is seen as little white dots at the back of your mouth. usually people like myself with lung disorders get thrush when they don't rinse their mouth right after using a nebulizer or inhaler. i have medication at home that i can refill when empty so i can use it when i feel the symptoms coming on and you can't brush thrush spots away
