Hi, can I just say that a four year battle is very brave, I have been going for a year and a half and its been hell, you show me that I can carry on with this.A few things have helped me see some light. I have found that excercising going out for a walk once a day helps me to clear my head and it helps me from becoming very low motivated, its stimulates the endorphins and helps the seretonin increase thus enabling a better mood, however this works over a period of time. Bananas help a lot aswell as they are high in vitamins and minerals that again increase the seretonin levels of the brain. I found that talking and releasing all of your thoughts to someone or into a diary is an effective way as it "frees your brain" for a while so you can have a release from your thoughts. Try to go out with friends to take your mind off of the past. This will hopefully be an enjoyable experience for you.
If need be try therapy and counselling it will allow you to deal with your past in a way that you will be able to reduce your stress levels about. This and excercise will both reduce stress levels immensely.
I feel that you should make your school or workplace (sorry I'm not sure which you fit into) aware that you have depression if you haven't already and get extensions onto pieces of work or homework of which again will help with the reduction of stress levels.
I'm sorry if I havent been much of a help.

Mammo give you some great advice.  Therapy does sound like the best way to learn how to cope with what has happened to you in the past.  Perhaps counseling for you AND your family together will be beneficial as well.  Also going to group sessions can give great insight as to how others in your situation have overcome the issues you are now dealing with.

Facing your past is best done thru therapy, but it's a big step in already knowing where the root cause lies.  The depression and anger is a result of what you went thru, and seeing a therapist can help you so much.  Ofen we just don't understand how to deal with all that has happened, a therapist can teach us how to deal with it, cope better and move on. One thing I realized is that so long as I was depressed and angry, I was still being a victim of the person that abused me as a child.  He still had a hold on me from his grave. Once an adult, I had choices and control, where as a child I didn't.  I chose to forgive him many year later, which I refused to do in the past because I didn't truly understand what "forgiving" really meant. Forgiving is actually refusing to be their victim any longer by laying down the anger and walking away, leaving God to deal with this person.  It doesn't mean you condone what they did, or that it was right, you don't need to be friends or talk to them ever again.  You are forgiving so that you are no longer their victim and carrying around the heaviness, and self destruction of anger.  I don't know what you have endured, but I am sorry because it has obviously had a serious affect on you. The past is just that...the past.  It's over and we can't change it, but we can determine how we will live our lives from this day forward.  I do hope you can face all this and move on with your life, a good and happy life that you deserve.  I wish you all the best, and take care.
