New Here

Hi everyone, I'm new here!
I couldn't sleep and just decided to join here to maybe get some friends who understand what its like to deal with depression. My boyfriend tries to understand, but he has no clue.
I'm 20 years old (almost 21!) and I've been in therapy for my depression for almost a year now. Last year was extremely rough for me and I'm still trying to get past it all.
Does anyone know any website that caters to significant others of people dealing with depression.  My boyfriend wants to help me but he doesn't understand how the depression makes me feel.  I figured maybe if I got him to read some information, it might help.

Thank you both.  That report looks good so I'll have to look into getting a copy of it.

It's so hard because my parents won't talk about the depression and my friends /  boyfriend don't understand it enough.  So hopefully I can make a few friends on here to help me through the tough times.

Kande, I have never liked the idea of medicines- specifically for the reason you said.  Plus I've heard numerous things about becoming suicidal and such.  I'm already ultra sensitive to meds and don't want to take any chances.

Hello & Welcome hisgirl, I 'am glad you are here. I don't know of a depression website right off hand, but you have made a good choice at this site. The people here are very friendly, helpful, and give good advise. Depression as you know means "sad", and since you have tried therapy and it hasn't helped you, maybe you should search your feelings and try to figure out when and why you are sad. You mentioned you have had a bad year. Probably that is what the sadness is all about... working threw sad feelings. One thing I would ask you not to do is take medication. It only compounds things and later you have even more to deal with... but that is another story altogether. I think this site could be of great help for your boyfriend too. Many people here would be willing to talk with him.Even tho we are not experts here, you will never find a better group of people to talk to. Everyone sincerely does care, and sometimes that is all a person needs. In a few hours you will be able to talk with everyone and share your problems if you want to. I try to do the night shift so to speak, but some of the others have more experience than I do with some of  the peoples issues. The men are all good about helping each other, so maybe your boyfriend could talk with them?! I hope I have helped. Good luck.  Kande
