I have double depression, dysthymia and am in a deep depression with anxiety right now....
"but do not worry, if it is right for you the only thing you will notice is the darkness peeling away when you go on it."
I guess I should have said "if it is right for you one thing you may hopefully notice is ......."
"but do not worry, if it is right for you the only thing you will notice is the darkness peeling away when you go on it. "
Writing then reading brings back memories.
One big positive effect was all those massive unexpected black hits from hell that would jump me out of my skin tapered off the longer I was on it in the first 6 weeks. Those hits would come from nowhere so there was no anticipating them. I can still remember the sinking feeling when they would start around 5 and eventualy get me into Ativan panic mode.
You didn't tell us what the prescription is for. Anxiety, depression?
"It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the full effect and only a few people can feel any effect in the first week." I should have said "feel any positive effect by the end of the first week". Negative I know nothing about but I am guessing you won't feel that for 7 days either, but a professional is required to give you the advice.
Good luck, your doc and hopefully a pharmacist are there to help.
"anyone to stick a mete in you and determine how much you need"
Let's change that "mete" to meter.
It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the full effect and only a few people can feel any effect in the first week. Celexa speeds up your system, for lack of a better word. For that reason I was told to take it in the morning, as far as I remember, and I did indeed feel mentally juiced if you will, but totally content and able to face the black clouds mainly because they just disappeared. I don't know where they went, they were just gone and to this day when I am off it the problem was lifted.
Cal your pharmacist, or any pharmacist if you are in a hurry for info and your pharmacist is closed because they can provide instant info.
You should maintain close contact with a pharmacist (or better still with your doc/phych, but most people can't afford the time to sit in lines waiting for an appointment) if new to Celexa. One reason to have quick access is because if the dose is underprescribed, it can enhance the feelings of anxiety for some people (and I am guessing of depression too but can't remember since it was the perfect drug for my mood issues so the warning was not a problem).
It is not possible for anyone to stick a mete in you and determine how much you need, or even if you will respond to it, so that can be the very tough part - You having to figure what the effect is of this drug that can provide the wrong effect all the while realizing it can take weeks for it to build in your system enough to get the desired effect. My doc started me on 20s which the pharm said was normal starter, so the 5s are a question mark to me, the non pharmacy person. Please take my advice as unprofessional based on limited experience, and talk asap to a qualified person. Don't suffer if a solution is available.
I just came off it after 9 great months (including positive effect after 1 and a noticeable weekly improvement effect for the first 4 weeks, but I couldn't get enough of what I needed until I moved up to 30s) so it works for people with my brain.
The drug rewires your brain, so coming off forces a rewiring back to where you came from, but do not worry, if it is right for you the only thing you will notice is the darkness peeling away when you go on it. Your mind is still 100% yours, but the difference is you can enjoy life on it without that darkness that didn't belong in your mind being there pestering your system.
To quit, you have to taper off. My doc had me go from my normal 30 mg to 20, 10 and 5 every 2 weeks although I shortened the timelines a bit each time since I was impatient to get off since I was feeling very little come down effects. My pharmacist said my doc was being very conservative having me break 10s to get 5s for those last 2 weeks as he had never heard of anyone going to that extreme. My doc was super informed, or at least Celexa worked so well I gave him top marks and am assuming he knew the 5s were an appropriate way to taper off and 20s were the right starter dose.
Thus, I am surprised you were prescribed 5s, based on all the above background info.
Write back, but make those calls and appointments, as it is not wise to self-prescribe by over-riding your docs orders. The tough part is figuring the effects but hang in there as millions somehow deal with clinical unhappiness each day but without meds. You are on the right track with a doc, so things will probably resolve for the best.
So i took mine at 3pm the last 2 days and yesterday it put me to sleep and like 6pm, so i have no idea when to take it and the side effects were awful yesterday, crying, depressed, wanting to crawl out of my skin....did you get those and did they go away??
i take mine in morning because i normally work 3rd shift. but it does not make me sleep i think my depression is what keeps me awake
My psychiatrist prescribed it.....Does it keep you up at night?? Yesterday I took it a 3pm and took an ambien at night and slept, but now its 3pm and im exhausted, maybe I should take it in the morn, i just dont know....
