Celexa

I was on celexa for two years at age 16. It made me go absolutely insane to the point where I tried to commit suicide and ended up in the hospital again. The week I went off of it, I felt incredibly better. I have extreme PTSD now, see a therapist, I have anger issues, and loss of memory all because of Celexa. I would like to know who I can call or go to to report this and get some sort of justice.

yeah i guess it is more the doctors fault, i told him numerous times that i felt suicidal and instea he bumped up my dose. my mom is on celexa and it has been great i just feel that under 18 it should be legal. your not mature enough and too many hormones to decide how you should really be feeling

Sorry to hear about your terrible experiences with Celexa.  I've had positive results from the drug myself.  While not an advocate for the pharmaceutical industry, I must say that when it was prescribed to me, I recall reading a long list of potential side effects... and one of them was 'thoughts of suicide'.  Again, sorry for your frightening experience, but I do believe their fine-printed disclaimer on potential side effects covers their ***.  Hope that you've found another antidepressant that helps without this terrible side effect.  God bless you.   - RJ.

so i cannot sue them unless the suicide attempt actually worked? this seems ridiculous.

I have looked and looked for a way to sue the makers of Celexa.  The only suits are regarding fetal developmental problems and there is another one about suicide in minors.

thank you very much, it is so helpful to have some sort of information, whether its just seeing that this is happening for other people. the internet is so hard to track down things and the whole system is so wrong... having to wait six months to get into a therapist is just ridiculous so i really hope i can get somewhere with this and change it for all of you. let me know if you find any other information

I think you are so brave, as i have in the past tried to take on the mental health clinic and it got chucked back at me with legal blah. so i think it is great you are standing up for yourself and others like me who don't have the energy to get anywhere, like me. Please don't give up either if you really want to get your story heard. (that goes for you too hunny6842)

I wish you the very best.

See my note.  I am 1 month + 1 week off Celexa and still could spit nails I am so angry.  Thought it was funny, not one comment on my post.  If you find any others who have anger issues, keep me in the loop and I will for you too.  Oh and thanks everyone for your comments...... none.

That depends on where you live.  I'm guessing you live somewhere in America, 'cause that's where most people on this site live.  I live in New Zealand and am trying to complain about some psychotropic medication someone prescribed me.  In New Zealand there are "health advocates", and I am seeing one of those to help me out.  I don't know whether you have those in America.  I'm also going to get some free legal advice at the local "community law centre".  Don't know whether you have those although I imagine so.  But I'm sure your local hospital/doctor would be required to tell you about the complaints process also.  You should probably go to your hospital or whoever prescribed it and ask them about their complaints policy, and try to find an advocate.  If things don't work out for you that way, then you'll probably have to find some kind of legal advisor.
I found all this out with a bit of internet research and then calling the numbers I found through that research.  I suggest you do the same and find out how your state deals with this kind of thing.
