Depression, anxiety and derealization - possibly triggered by allergies?

Hello

I am a thirty year-old male who has been suffering from depression, anxiety and chronic derealization for thirteen years. I recently remembered that at the age of twelve I quit taking medication for asthma and allergies/allergic rhinitis (due to listening to bad advice). I remember that shortly afterwards I suffered from difficulties sleeping, irritability, chronic fatigue, restlessness and recurring earinfections (that were left untreated). This continued til the age of seventeen when I developed severe depression, extensive insomnia and eventually chronic derealization. I have since been diagnosed with GAD and following that simply with depression. The thing is that I never mentioned having untreated allergies to any of the doctors I went to since I thought it was irrelevant. I think that because of that the obvious cause of my anxiety and the ensuing insomnia, depression etc. may have been overlooked all this time. I would be grateful for any professional opinion regarding this matter.

Thanks

yea defienitly, and in so many ways.  First off symptoms of untreated allergies (especially air pollutants to the rhitis such as pollen) can in itself lead to symptoms such as cognitive problems irratiblility and most importantly..fatigue.  People with chronic fatigue problmes often complain of a symptom called "brain fog" which can lead to your symptoms as severe as they may be.  Annoys me that you were diagnosed with derealization?  Like when i was young and healthy and very intellegent about one in every 10 people i would joke "that kids in his own world".  but yet that kid may be saying the same about others or even myself.  tryna say its in the eye of the beholder. although you may feel you have lsot touch with reality, you should never be diagnosed or given that title.  Also in theory and another possiblility how these diagnoses are linked is thru sleep.  untreated allergies can lead to inflammation and obvious nasal congestion/deviated septum.  therefore affecting your ability to get deep and restful sleeps leading to OSA (look up and see if you present with similar symptoms) which goes undiagnosed in too many people (or u just may also have osa and not know?)  But with your symptoms being this severe i beleive there has to be some combination of problems (saying you have exhausted all phychiatric meds of course, thoses should always come firrst being most likey)  And due to your irregular sleep patterns i bellieve your issues persist during your time asleep.  Allergies can also manifest into acid reflux or LPR (where you dont have heartburn) so get that checked out too usually by an ENT or GI doctor.  but if by chance you have severe OSA due to allergies, Reflux or apnea (inflammation in throat) itself, your fatigue and other issues can be resolved.  If all of these tests have been done then im sorry i could not have been of more help.  Be resilient and always have hope if you have any questions, emails ***@****.  And with untreated allergies and all ur symptoms u may think it cant get worse then it is right now but it can believe me.  Similar circumstance happened to a friend i knew when he all of a sudden lost his ability to take deep breaths and was then diagnosed with difficult-to-treat asthma very scary and hard to endure.

I HAVE ANXIETY,DERESSION AND INSOMNIA MYSELF. I JUST WANT TO BE NORMAL AGAIN. I BELEIVE THAT PRAYER AND FAITH IN GOD THINGS WILL GET BETTER. JOHN 14:18-20 I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU COMFORTLESS: I WILL COME TO YOU. YET A LITTLE WHILE, AND THE WORLD SEETH ME NO MORE; BUT YE SEE ME: BECAUSE I LIVE, YE SHALL LIVE ALSO. AT THAT DAY YE SHALL KNOW THAT I AM IN MY FATHER, AND YE IN ME, AND I IN YOU. PRAYER AND FAITH IN GOD AND I BELEIVE WE'LL BE JUST FINE. GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

Can't say for sure, but probably unrelated.  Ear infections, by the way, don't generally need to be treated; in fact, recurrent antibiotic use is probably more harmful than the average ear infection, which, as you learned, tend to clear on their own.  It's when they linger and don't clear that you need to see a physician.  However, since allergies are often caused by food sensitivities and so can anxiety and depression, that's an area you might want to rule out.  Most common culprits are wheat and dairy, as well as soy and corn.
