I just wanted to add something to this. If dealing with depression, it's usually a good idea to avoid alcohol. I have anxiety that also comes with depression at times, and alcohol just makes things worse whether on meds or not. Alcohol is a depressant, no question.
As the previous poster has stated, NEVER mix alcohol with an anti-depressant. Alcohol is a depressant, and the two combined can cause depression to come back and at times become worse. You can also take too much of one and OD. It will also increase the effects of the medicine, and in some cases this is not a good thing to have.
Don,t ever mix alcohol and prescription together, you can have an adverse reaction to the meds and end up at the ER.Same goes for grapefruit,it can increase the dose.Yes,symptoms of depression can last longer,it depends on the person,treatment-meds,and therapy.Take care of yourself and things will improve.
