Paxil and getting pregnant

My husband and I are trying to have kids. We have been trying for only a few month, however, we are not young anymore (35) and I don't want to wait a year before consulting with a doctor (as it usually recommended). So here is my question:
My husband has been taking paxil for the past 13 years (10mg). From the research online I found out that paxil changes sperm DNA that reduces permeability and as a result reduces the chance for pregnancy.
I just want to know if there are men out there who've been taking paxil and also got kids? Did you have to switch from paxil to something else? Did you have to take specific supplements?
Please advise. My clock is ticking and I don't like to be in the dark
Thank you

You have to talk to your Dr about your husband being on Paxil. I took it for several years myself, the same dose as your husband and it was'nt too hard to quit. 10 mgs is a small dose. I'm not sure how long it takes to get out of your system. He needs to ask his Dr about that. I would get all the info I could about your husband being on this med and if it could effect your baby or not.   Remar

Hello,

thank you for your reply. As I mentioned i mentioned in my post we are only at the beginning of getting pregnant. Also the more I read the more I think that to get off Paxil is very complicated and can take more then just several month while dealing with huge mood changes.

Most likely if I am not getting pregnant during this cycle I will go to see my OBGYN and let him know about my husband meds.

Thanks

You and your husband both need to see a Dr to discuss your options. Paxil has been linked to birth defects in babies born to some women that are taking it. I'm not sure about the fathers who are taking it. Can your husband go off the meds until you get pregnant? Remar
