True, have you considered another type of birth control such as an iud or something that doesn't mess with your hormones?

Just to clarify, I think M4 meant to take either tryptophan or 5-HTP, not both.  5-HTP is a metabolite of tryptophan and is better at passing the blood/brain barrier, so that's the one you'd want to take if you wanted to take it at all.  On the other hand, if this is hormonal, going at the hormonal balance through natural means would be a more direct route but it is tricky so you'd need expert help with that.  Would it hurt to do an experiment where you stopped taking the pill for a couple of months and see what happens?  Perhaps the original problem has resolved itself, and you'd be able to see if that makes you feel better.  Might be something to discuss with your doc.

Hi There
I have a thyroid problem which causes hormone in-balances and the last time I took the pill I felt suicial I had to go to the emergency Dr's.
I haven't taken it since, go to your Dr's and have them run some thyroid tests.
Kind Regards

Hi Kelbel111,

Hi.  Well, we know birth control pills are all about hormones, however, if the pill was going to cause depression, I would have expected to effect you from the beginning.

Perhaps you are experiencing depression or perhaps by missing a few pills last month it has thrown your hormones off balance.  I would not wait too long to see your doctor to discuss the issue.  Best of luck to you.

Hello there,

indeed some contraceptive pill users report the same symptoms. I don't think you should take another pill to counter this like an antidepressant or mood stabiliser since you are so young. One thing you can do is to balance your hormones and augment the serotonin synthesize with healthy diet and exercise or via the use of the 2 primary amino acids needed to synthesize serotonin, tryptophan and 5-HTP and they can be bought  at a food supplement store. Exercise is really helpful at balancing your hormones, at least 8 hormones are implied in physical activity and have a positive impact on your mood and health. Endorphins for example reduce stress and tensions and makes you feel good as it's a kind of natural opiate.

Anyway try to check out with your doctor if you can try another kind of pill since one drug does not fit all just like in clothes one size doesn't fit all.

Best regards,
M4
