I've had my meds doubled with some success. Before I started taking mood stableizers or antipycotic meds, I believe I would see a p-doc that focuses on mood disorders...just my opinion..
Was he looking at your chart when he advised you to do this? If not, I wouldn't trust what he is telling you. I also think it's best to see a psych doctor when it comes to medications, they are much more knowledgeable about them, and can best advise you.
Take care....
Also, since they mentioned the bi-polar possibility, they will have to determine if you need Lithium or not.
While a family member may be more motivated to help I would definitely being asking for a psych referral. You should follow-up with a psychiatrist.
If you truly have bipolar disorder, the antidepresants can make it worse. I would recommend going to see someone who focuses on psych medication be it a psychiatrist or a nurse practitioner who works with this. What made him think you have bipolar?
Yup,benjimom is right....Please note that there are blood tests that they can do, to verify if you are truly bi-polar or not.
Your Doctor needs to make an accurate diagnosis of whether you truly have a bi-polar situation or not . Get some blood work done, and good luck. I hope all works out for you real soon.
