What's Worng with Me?

I have had depression since I was 15 yrs old.  I was always atheltic and liked who I was but one day I woke up and the world was very different.  It seemed like it was black and white and I became very fatigued and couldn't think properly.  Nothing felt good anymore.  Ever since then (17 yrs ago) I have still struggled with this illness.  Now my main symptoms are never feeling good - it's as if my brain can't respond to pleasurable stimuli and i have pain in my temples and eyes everyday!!  I hate feeling like this.  I have no stress and if I didn't have this illness I would like my life.

This is an illness that has been running in my family - both my father and his grandfather had depression and committed suicide.  I have tried many, many anti-depressants over the years but they all make me feel worse. Help!

Have you tried a mood stabilizer such as Lithium or Lamictal?  Depression with onset in the teen years may be a sign of bipolar spectrum disorder rather than unipolar depression.  This would also explain why you have not responded well to anti-depressants in the past.  For more information, google Phelps + psych education.
