Oh, and do not be depressed about it because its not like your disgusting for it. Theyre really common you will even see them in little kids. I wouldnt worry about it affecting your chances at relationships either, as long as the person knows they cant catch the virus unless you have a sore I do not see any problem there.
Also, I went and did some research just now and found that certain things cause the virus to flare (meaning getting a sore) things like the sun, and chapped lips so use chapstick with sunscreen in it

You are not contagious unless you have a sore, so unless you have a sore you have nothing to worry about. I learned this stuff when a lady came to talk to us at school about stds and sex ed stuff. When you have a sore, they are contagious until the sore dries out, but the stuff that drains from them is what spreads them. Also, they can be spread to your tongue and even your eyes. Please know that cold sores are extremely common, the virus can be picked up from anywhere, drinking fountains, stuff like that. Most people actually unknowingly carry the simplex 1 virus, but dont get sores because they may be immune to it or the virus is dormant.

Talk to your family doctor about it. I don't really know, but it is possible that you aren't contagious when you don't have a sore.
