Hi Mark, the good thing about getting older, is with age comes wisdom. This wisdom comes from learning from experiences. What helped me was writning down a list of new year resolutions. Practical things that help with everyday living as these small things are the ones that usually cause problems.
Some of my list is below that i started in 2001:.
1. Know where everything is.
2. Dont repeat the same mistake
3. Moderation in all things
4. Listen
5. Write down on the shopping list as i run out of it.
6. Take the time for essentials (like oil changes)
7. Aware of priorities.
8. Done assume.
Did you make a new years resolution for 2013?
Gosh I am 72 years old and I was your age once!! Why are you so scared of getting older. It is a pleasant journey through life. New things open to you each and every day. Your life changes, of course it does. Your priorities change, but life is an adventure. Do you want to stay the age you are for ever? Where's the fun in that??
Of course it can be scary, but also exciting.
Hi Mark, I wish I was 22 again! No seriously, I understand that young people have such anxieties. But try to enjoy being young; there is no reason on earth why you should even be thinking about marriage or anything that momentous right now. If you haven't done so already, try to develop a good network of supportive friends to discuss your worries and do great fun stuff with. Find a passion - films, mountaineering, furniture building, learning a language. When you are engaged in something you love, you will find you cease worrying because you leave your 'self'' behind and get totally involved. You have plenty of time before you need to get too serious about life.
This is a normal fear existential thoughts are part of your maturing and you need to work through it, talk to someone
Don't take life too seriously. Also don't think you have to do what everyone else does. The things that worry you are things that you have no control over anyway. There is a plan and a purpose for your life and it may not even be doing the things that you foresee. Here is something to think about:
If you feel poor then you want wealth
If you feel sick then you want health
If you feel cold then you want a cover
If you feel lonely then you want a lover
If you hate the day then you want the night
If you fear the dark then you want the light
If you feel like a dunce then perhaps you want school
If you feel like a dork then you want to be cool
If you're in pain then you want it to heal
If you feel insane you may need a pill
If you want to be saved then you need to pray
If you want what I have I'll tell you the way
Don't brood on the past live in the present
Don't try to be king be happy as a peasant
Don't fear the future it could be better tomorrow
Don't force love it will just bring you sorrow
Don't hold grudges learn to forgive
Be ready to die so you can live
Love everyone there is no need to hate
If they are in a hurry be patient and wait
Do something selfless and expect no credit
Find peace in yourself and learn how to spread it
One cycle begins when you take your first breath
That cycle will end on the day of your death
Perhaps an endless cycle is that of the soul
It uses life cycles to allow it to grow
Notice the cycles and let them flow
Try to find faith and give up control
Are you depressed, if not, you need to find another forum that deals with anxiety probably.
