Lacking in Empathy

Im not sure if im in the right spot for this question but hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my issue or point me in the right direction!
I have been seeing my boyfriend (29) for some time now, we have been very happy and have been making serious plans for our future! We had our first argument and he told me that he has a problem with feeling empathy and is unable to have feelings of loss eg, death of a loved one or a broken relationship! He tells me that while it will upset him for maybe an hour he is then over it and no longer or very rarely thinks of that person again even if it was dear, loved family member! He tells me that all other emotions are in "normal" he loves deeply and cares for people but I find that hard to believe! He has never been treated for any mental health issues but has suffered from depression in his teen years!
Can anyone shed some light on this for me, my head is a blur and i am very confused!

Yikes, that's pretty serious. Diassociating isn't a laughing matter or something not to take seriously. There's no way to make a diagnosis here, but i would recommend you speak to your own doctor about this. Someone who lacks emotions is a bit frightening, and I would do some surfing on the internet as well. I would seek a professional opinion before making such a huge commmitment.  I looked up on the internet with the words "lacking in empathy", as well he suffers from depression, which is pretty normal with other conditions as well, but speak with your doctor. That's the only practical advice I can give you.
