Hives - what the hell an I allergic to?

Hi all so I'm a 31 year old male. Never been allergic to anything in my lIfe apart from pollen. I've recently been getting hives on my body normally when I wake up in the morning. This has been going on for about 3 weeks now.

I went to see my doctor last week and he told me I had a food allergy and have me some stronger antihistamines to help with itching. By lunchtime they go away and then come back during the night. I've been trying to cut out various foods in my diet but nothing seems to work.

Although I thought I saw a change in my symptoms last night as the hives don't appear on my legs so much but more on my upper body. It got to about mid night and I realised I'd. come up all on my shoulders stomach and a little on my face which had never happened before.

Could it still be a food allergy? I did have a  coffee before about 9pm but I'd prevousily drunk coffee in the morning without any problems.

I'm confused and not really sure what to do. I'm getting a little fed up. I'm due to go back to my doctor next week maybe he can do a skin test to see what I'm allergic to.

Has anyone got any ideas what to try?

Many thanks

Paul

The most common food allergens are nuts, dairy, gluten and soy.  But some people are allergic to different fruits also.  It takes a lot of work to avoid gluten and dairy, but it is worth it.  Get tested for Celiac disease.

Most of the times the causative allergen remains unknown and thus fall with the terminology 'Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria'.However this is no reason to trying to identify a cause.
