Diagnosed as a yeast infection? I'm not so sure...Help?

Hi,

Last year my doctor diagnosed the rash at the base of my genitalia as a yeast infection. Later on, I decided to get a second opinion from a different doctor and clinic, and was told that the rash i have "doesn't look like an std", but the doctor was "on the fence" about it being a yeast infection. Now, what is there looks flaky/white/red when inflamed; blistery at times, and also flaky/"chalky" in my 'folds'. I have also noticed that the affected area responds well to warm water when i take a shower; Furthermore, it tends to "erupt" sometimes during, or after I masturbate, or just spontaneously for unknown reason(s). I can't outguess it. The intensity, itching, redness, and irritation vary. I have not been able to rid myself of this for 10 years and counting--and if it helps at all, the origin of this rash seems to coincide with a night spent at a friends house years ago, where , from what i recall, I did use their bathroom at least once, and petted their housecat who was said to have some kind of malady/infection/or something.

Please help! I've had a really hard time with this rash!

Thank you!

One more thing: I had a horrible poison oak/ivy rash years ago that still afflicts me from time to time (not sure if this has any bearing on what's going on downstairs, but thought I'd mention it).

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms it is less likely to be a yeast infection because the symptoms do not persist for 10 long years without spread. To check whether it is a fungal infection or not, you can get a KOH examination of the skin scrapings and fungal culture done.

From the symptoms it looks like eczema skin which presents as itchy, flaky, red skin and is a sort of dermatitis precipitated by any allergic reaction to allergens. To confirm the diagnosis get a biopsy sin done from your dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply Bhupinder! I appreciate it.

I will post a follow-up after I've seen a dermatologist.

Thanks again,
WB1.
