Brown stains on palms

Like some of the other people who have inquired on this website, I too have woken up to find strange brown stains on the palm of my hand.  It looks like iodine stains.  My hands are clean when I go to bed the night before, and when I wake up the next morning, the strainge iodine-like staining is there.  It doesn't wash off, but does fade throughout the day.  If I'm not coming into contact with anything during my sleep, what could be causing this?  Could it be a delayed reaction from contact with some substance?  Why the irregular pattern (similar to bruising)?  If I came into contact with something, why isn't my whole hand this colour?

This discussion is related to Brown stain on palms of hands.

I woke up with these same stains this morning  on my left hand and a little on my right. I have not eaten peppers of any kind in months so it can not be that.  I also have had no fruit in the last week other than cranberry juice. Hoping someone posts an answer soon.

I woke up this morning with the same thing, so did a google search and found this page.  Mine IS iodine though, it's the same colour and smells just like iodine.  It's all under my fingernails, a bit on the palms and partially on some of my fingers.  I was able to wipe a little off my fingernails and sniffed it and it definitely smells like iodine.  I did have some butter chicken curry last night but only a small amount which wasn't really hot at all and it's not like I plunged both hands into it to end up with the brown staining everywhere.  My hands were clean when I went to bed.  Weird.

It can't be. I'm 12 and have weird brown stains on my palms and fingers. I do not smoke. I also don't like peppers.

I got it my first time today, and I never eat peppers. It can't be that. I woke up today to go for my run, and I have weird tanned spots on my palms and fingers It's all embedded around my nails, too.

Has anyone come up with anything different regarding these mysterious brownish-orange spots?   My 13 yr old daughter woke up with these spots all over the soles of her feet, then I checked mine and I had just a couple small dots of the same color too!  And my other 2 children just had one of two tiny dots but not like my other child with the most of them.  They are henna colored and she just got a henna tattoo 2 days before, so she thought it was henna ink, but she didn't walk in it. And how would that explain other family members having it too? We weren't w/ her when she got the henna.  It doesn't wash off, it's like a permanent stain. Doesn't hurt, itch, etc. We couldn't find anything on the web other than maybe it was stains from a crushed stink bug, but she doesn't recall stepping on one or any signs of bugs in our house.  This is very strange!
